Regional Traffic Data Collections (Fall 2025/Spring 2026)
The Butte County Association of Governments (BCAG) and its vendor, National Data & Surveying Services, are currently collecting traffic data throughout Butte County. The devices being utilized are temporary traffic data collection cameras used solely to measure average daily traffic, including vehicle volumes, speed, and classification. The cameras are not monitored live, and all data is securely stored on a private server that is not accessible to the public. They do not capture or identify facial features, license plates, or any personal information. Once the data is delivered, all footage is deleted.
Key clarifications:
- These are temporary traffic count devices, typically deployed for approximately three days
- The cameras are low resolution and used solely to count vehicles
- The devices are not monitored live
- They do not perform facial recognition or license plate recognition
- Neither BCAG nor the local jurisdictions have access to video recordings
- Data is collected for analysis and used only to generate anonymous, aggregated traffic count information for transportation planning purposes
Traffic count data is used by BCAG and regional partners to support roadway safety analysis, grant applications, congestion management, and long-range transportation planning. Additional information on how traffic count data is used can be found on the BCAG website:
