Spare the Air Week

Plan for "Spare the Air Week 2008" - April 27 - May 3, 2008    Guest Speakers

Plan for "Spare the Air Week 2008" - April 27 - May 3, 2008Top of Page

Riding the bus is always a good idea, and it is an even better idea during Spare the Air Week, because it's FREE! That's right, for six days you can ride on ANY B-Line fixed route bus and you don't have to pay a cent!

To make it even more fun to ride, there will be special guest speakers on selected routes highlighting the history, geography and other points of interest in the area. (Each day's speakers are detailed on this page. You can print out a summary page of all the speakers.)

Passengers who ride during this week may also be entered into a drawing for prizes including a folding bike, In-Motion gym membership and monthly bus passes.

To kick off and wrap up the week, look for the B-Line bus in Paradise's Gold Nugget Day Parade on Saturday, April 26, and Chico's Pioneer Day Parade on Saturday, May 3.

Support alternative transportation and air quality on us, not to mention how much you can save on gas. Taking the B-Line always makes sense, and during Spare the Air Week, it makes even more cents!  This week is made possible thanks to a generious grant from the Butte County Air Quality Management District.

Make the most of the week and enjoy a ride along with one of our guest speakers. A special thanks goes out to Linda Furr and the League of Women Voters for coordinating all the Spare the Air Week speakers.

How to choose a bus with a guest speaker:
Each bus that will host a speaker is listed here by day. You can see the topic, the speaker, the route and times they will be riding, and the beginning and end time of each direction so you can plan where, and what time, to catch the bus. Look at the bus schedule and maps to help you. Even though the schedule only lists a few selected time points the bus will pick up at any bus stop along the route. See a complete list of all B-Line stops by route.

Where to board the bus:
Most speakers will be traveling on a single route or bus, so you can board the bus anywhere along the route. For example, on Tuesday you'll see Roger Cole will be speaking on Route 7 between 3:46 - 5:36. The Chico Mall is listed because that is a convenient starting point for this route (and also because if someone needs to drive to catch a bus, it is a convenient place to park). However, the bus will continue to take the route 7 loop, so you can board the bus at ANY stop along the route and still get the full benefit of Roger's insight.

If the speaker you want to hear is on a bus that covers more than one route be sure to check the schedule to make certain you are on the correct bus. For example, look at Monday and see that John Gallardo will be speaking on routes 6 and 5. This is actually the same bus but changes numbers at either end of its route. Since there are other route 5 & 6 buses running at the same time, the route times John is on will be listed under the details of his talk (see below).

Why participate?:
Because it's a fun way to enjoy the bus and learn something interesting about your community. Be sure to take full advantage of this opportunity and interact with your speakers. Ask them questions, you just might be surprised at all the wonderful things you can learn.
Misc. Route Tips:
  • In the descriptions below TC = Transit Center. For example, the Chico Transit Center at 2nd & Salem is listed as Chico TC.
  • If you are uncertain of where to catch a bus with a speaker please call for help, 879-2468.
